Today I wanted to take a moment to bring you guys a little bit of information on an ingredient that I personally think is pretty neat. In our searches to find ingredients that come from vegan & environmentally friendly sources, we needed to find a wax that we loved. Waxes are an important part of our lip balms and solid lotions.
We did find one wax that we truly like. The wax used at Kilted Suds is called candelilla wax. It comes from the leaves of a small shrub that's native to northern Mexico and the Southwestern United States. It's typically a yellowish brown color, has a fantastic earthy smell and tends to be a very hard wax. Candelilla wax is obtained by boiling the leaves and stems of the plant. The resulting "cerote" is then skimmed from the surface and further processed.
Candelilla wax adds shine to products, all while functioning as a hardener, a stabilizer, an emulsifier, a fast-absorbing lubricant, and a nourishing skin conditioner. It is believed that Candelilla Wax might even help reduce the appearance of stretch marks as well as the signs of aging, such as wrinkles and age spots.
