What Is Spirulina?

Spirulina is an ingredient that can be found on the label of many Kilted Suds products. It's an ingredient I love using because of the beautiful green color it gives soaps and scrubs, but what is it really?

Spirulina

Spirulina is a variety of blue-green algae. It can be found around the world in warm oceans or lakes, and is also cultivated in places with warmer climates. It has become increasingly popular over the past few years, as many people are realizing that it is full of vitamins, nutrients, amino acids, and more!

At Kilted Suds, we're not consuming spirulina, but rather incorporating it in our products for beautiful color. All of the added skin benefits are a wonderful bonus!

Skin Benefits of Spirulina

Spirulina has qualities that make it wonderful for fighting off free radicals (read more about them here), increasing healing time of the skin, and helping to prevent the growth of candidia bacteria (the cause of breakouts).
